Ronald Van De Kemp (RVDK) Sustainable Couture and a Fashion Revolution

“Creating couture out of unwanted materials because we believe that what is deemed useless today can create beautiful tomorrows.”

In essence, this is the core of Ronald Van De Kemp’s innovative, eco-friendly and forward-facing fashion label, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and created in 2014, as a vital response to the vast wastage associated with the fashion industry.

RVDK’s founder Ronald Van De Kemp, has experienced the best and worst of the industry, being creative director for luxury high-end brands such as Bill Blass, Celine, Michael Kors, Guy Laroche and Barneys, before deciding to set up his own label. The premise of RVDK is to be less polluting by using off-cuts, salvaged clothing and leftover materials, but with his skilled eye, to continue to produce high-end, desirable couture clothing for women.

Without compromising on the outcome, Ronald Van De Kemp looks to make fashion less about creating multiple collections a year, each with their own theme, but rather to focus on an ethical approach, taking couture back to its origins, with each piece being made with craftsmanship, love and a thoughtful consciousness.

Ronald Van De Kemp achieves this with a circular approach to materials where he buys unused stock from big fashion houses and looks to the past – sourcing vintage prints from the 70s, creating individual, limited-edition, statement pieces.

He also eschews the fashion seasons, seeing this as another contributor to fast fashion; instead he creates timeless designs made to last. He also employs the use of small ateliers and artisans in Holland, thereby using local craftsmanship and keeping the supply chain small and sustainable.

Evoking the heyday of Haute Couture, RVDK designs are elegant and unique, which pay particular attention to what women like to wear and feel comfortable in, Ronald Van De Kemp describes his womenswear as “an expression of a women’s personality that underlines her strength and character.” From made-to-order couture with a one-to-one studio visit with Ronald, a responsibly sourced bridal gown to accessories including shoes, boots and belts there’s something to suit every fashion devotee, just without the guilt. His designs are favoured by a multitude of celebrities and women in the public eye from Cara Delevigne to Camilla Cabello, Pyranka Chopra to Gwen Stefani who all give RVDK their seal of approval and in turn support the fashion revolution for a sustainable future.
