Ski Guide to Flims Laax Falera in Switzerland

Ski resorts in Switzerland certainly do their thing with great efficiency and style. No more so than at Flims Laax Falera, a skiers destination placed above the villages of Laax, Flims and Falera at the gateway to the Grison Alps. Not only does it benefit from over 224 kilometres of slopes, but it also has an emphasis on great foodie encounters.

Found within the Graubünden, a canton in eastern Switzerland, Flims Laax Falera is neighbours with St. Moritz, although this sizeable ski area is perhaps less well-known, you’re more likely to find locals skiing their hearts out here. Even better, the gastronomic offerings on the mountains are certainly worth clicking out of your skis for.

Perfect for the beginner, intermediate or pro, Flims Laax Falera has 38 lifts, ascending you to a range of runs. Those out of practice or beginning their ski journey might like the gentle blue slopes of the Vorab Glacier and Alp Dado, whereas the sun-drenched slopes of Nagens and Mutta Rodunda suit more experienced skiers. If you want to push yourself, try the heart-pumping descent from La Siala down to Flims, where you will descend 1,700 metres in altitude.

Don’t forget to fuel up – especially as Flims Laax Falera is an Alpine foodie paradise – it’s even possible to do a gourmet ski safari. Classic mountain dishes are served at traditional huts, enjoy warming goulash or wooden boards that come loaded with Alpine cheese and deer ham followed by the sugary Kaiserschmarrn but you’ll also find innovative food trucks abound. We love the cosy converted cowsheds where home-made cheese is served as raclette and fondue by the open fireplace.

It’s the end of the day and your weary limbs are begging for relaxation. More skiing you say? Well, Flims Laax Falera has an incredible night ski experience on six kilometres of long, freshly prepared and illuminated runs. Or else, head back to your hotel – The Hide Hotel at Flims has a gorgeous spa area to indulge in with over 1,000 square meters of sheer chill: a Finnish Panorama Sauna with direct mountain view, a steam-room, rain showers and relaxation room, which will get you on track for another gorgeous day skiing Flims Laax Falera.
