The gateway to the Bernese Oberland, Thun is an attractive historic riverfront town that dates back to the 12th century. Sandwiched between the mountains and Lake Thun (Thunersee) with the river Aare skirting the old town, Thun is naturally picturesque and close to neighbour Interlaken. The scene is dramatic – snow-capped Alps a yonder with the turreted medieval landmark castle of Schloss Thun pleasingly dominating the skyline.
