Brand Intro

Familiar done differently sums up Sagan and its guiding principles. A handbag and leather goods company with exquisite attention to detail, Sagan’s products fulfil the role of function combined with beauty.

Products

Sagan’s aesthetic can be characterized as classic with an avant-garde angle, and their sensibility values quality very highly: all pieces are handcrafted but with an eye for technical innovation and utilizing solid materials that last.

With a focus on handbags and leather goods, the brand merges the diversity of its founders Tanja Bradaric and Taro Ohmae, of Croatian and Japanese heritage respectively, with a love of Viennese tradition. One of its most outstanding pieces are the leather bags that incorporate traditional Viennese canework.

Minimal and modernist-inspired in their design, these bags look towards Marcel Breuer’s S32, Thonet chair with its recognizable woven cane pattern that has become synonymous with Viennese coffee-house culture. By its use of horn which is assembled on bags, wallets and other leather goods, Sagan references Vienna’s horn manufacturing industry which has been present from 1862. Recent innovation sees Sagan produce a stylish and practical hand sanitiser carrier and a collaboration with Kenneth Ize brings together artisans from Africa and Europe with the use of Nigerian handwoven fabric.

Story

Tanja Bradaric and Taro Ohmae, of Croatia and Japan met when they attended the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, where they studied fashion under the Belgian designer talents Raf Simons and Veronique Branquinho. Together, they discovered a harmonious modus operandi whereby their unique dynamic and indispensable support, they say, pushes them to always do better. Not too long after cutting their teeth at the houses of Chloé and Balenciaga in Paris, the duo founded their own label of ready-to-wear and accessories in 2012.

Stand Out

Each piece from Sagan is known for its uniqueness, in fact the word Sagan means “the left bank” in Japanese, a byword for non-conformity which we see a confidence of in Sagan’s brand philosophy
