Brand Intro

Maska, meaning ‘knitted stitch’ is a Swedish craft collective creating soft-as-butter knits for lovers of wool, luxurious fabrics and cosy style.

To produce an item of long-lasting quality, a garment that can be worn and treasured for a lifetime must adhere to the principles of yarn, design and fabric, according to Maska. Working in harmony together is the key to this high-quality brand, that combines luxury fibres, sustainable sourced with pared-back Scandi aesthetics, something they saw was missing from the market.

Maska wanted to reinvent the notion of knitwear, and revolutionise the itchy, reserved-for-grandparents reputation often associated with sturdy jumpers, although the craftmanship involved in hand-knitted pieces worn in the pre-industrial era was  source in inspiration – where every garment bought or made was an investment in time and money.

Using superior quality natural fibres including Mongolian cashmere, kid mohair, silk, alpaca, extra fine Merino wool and Peruvian Pima cotton, Maska work with precious, soft and lustrous natural fibres to create exquisite pieces for a new generation of wool lovers.

As a child, Maska’s founder Maria Svensson spent her days playing in her grandmother’s sewing mill on the south west coast of Sweden in a town famed for its textile business. She would gather the threads and material cut offs from the floor at her grandmother’s and benefiting from her grandmother’s wisdom, she learnt about true quality, tradition and craftmanship behind the garments.

These artisanal knitting techniques that filtered down through the family formed the backbone of Maska with the additional of high-quality, soft fabrics that suited the luxury market. The brand  was founded on the Swedish west coast in 2009 by Maria Svensson and launched a year later. She succeeded in achieving in her mission to produce sustainable knits which the wearer would cherish for life. The company remains independent and family-run, with aficionados of her knits spreading far and wide from Asia to America, with a thriving on-line business too.

Stand Out

A true, high-quality knit combines both the simplicity of design with complexity of materials and details – this is the ethos that Maska embodies and be seen in its lovingly created jumpers and cardigans.
