Maurice de Mauriac Swiss Watchmaker
When Daniel Dreifuss decided to change up time for good, he left behind the fast pace of the New York finance world to enter the slowed down lifestyle of Switzerland, where the intricate world of watchmaking occupied him

Brand Intro

For Daniel Dreifuss, watchmaker and founder of Zurich-based Maurice de Mauriac, time used to equal money when he worked for the New York stock exchange. Thankfully for the horologists among us, Daniel decided to channel his energy into a totally different form of time – using love and energy to create beautifully crafted watches.

Products

Based in Zurich, the hometown of time itself, Maurice de Mauriac’s atelier and showroom features collections of fine timepieces which span a huge range. What unites them is precise design, a delight for the unique paired with skilled handiwork from a family-run business.

Choosing a watch is a personal business and one which everyone will approach with a different eye. Maurice hosts workshops where clients can acquaint themselves with the inner mechanics of how watches work, plus see how small changes such as watch straps, dials and other designs can make big changes to the overall look and feel of the watch.

Depending on your requirements, you might leave Maurice’s atelier with a tasteful number that also doubles up as a diver’s watch, waterproof to 330 metres complete with surgical-grade steel and a helium escape valve. In collaboration with famed Swiss furniture designer Fabian Schwaerzler, your wristwatch may benefit from his purist vision with a chic, minimalist and monochromatic look. More recently, Maurice has produced a playful partnership with Stan Smith, where watches come with preppy-cool striped straps in primary greens, reds and blues.

Story

When Daniel Dreifuss decided to change up time for good, he left behind the fast pace of the New York finance world to enter the slowed down lifestyle of Switzerland, where the intricate world of watchmaking occupied him. Taking a different route in life, he created a new awareness of time with a family-run business focusing on producing delicately crafted timepieces.

Now with his sons also entering the business, the family spend their days cultivating and maintaining the large community of happy horologists as well as receiving orders from around the world, plus helping local customers find their perfect timekeeper. Daniel still spends much of his time on the minutiae of watch creation including touching and smelling samples and materials, looking into innovative new ideas, or examining watch hands or bronze alloys. Colour is a big part of the process – Daniel knows the difference a smart watch strap makes to the overall timepiece.

Stand Out

We love iconic brand Stan Smith’s collaboration with Maurice de Mauriac’s, the ‘Stan n Dan’ project which throws back to the oh-so cool tennis sneaker – and the perfect retro look for your wrist.
