At some 1,044 metres above sea level with the theatrical backdrop of Bavaria's Allgäu Mountains, this holistic wellness refuge creates a conduit between the culture of old and a new modernity.

Intro

Soul-seeking pilgrims love this epic mountain setting, a magical place that could easily inspire a novel or two, a destination to breathe deep, and let nature absorb your mind, all from the comfort of this sleek Bavarian bolthole where the past cuddles up to organic modernity.

At some 1,044 metres above sea level with the theatrical backdrop of Bavaria's Allgäu Mountains, this Alpine refuge creates a conduit between the culture of old and a new modernity. Using reserved architectural traditions, a new narrative is created, one that transfers consciously to our modern desire to step away from the treadmill of life and connect with nature.

The Traubel family truly is part and parcel of not only the Hubertus but of this tiny mountain village. When chatting with the family you feel their instinctive passion for Bavaria, the Alps and for Alpine culture. Hubertus is a tribute to their love; you can see how they spent the time sourcing locally crafted products and sense how they have a spontaneous spirit and a deep connection to nature on their doorstep. Their motto is appropriately: ‘Lust auf Leben – Zest for Life.’

The materials used here were picked for their distinct provenance, having a close bond to regional heritage and create balance. An eco-conscious hotel that utilizes traditional materials with striking prose, HUBERTUS Mountain Refugio is clad in untreated natural woods engineered with an edge of crisp modernity, hugging against older-aged farm buildings while nodding to local trademark heritage, a design choice that defines this sleek and ethical concept that remains ever stunning and fresh.

The clever design harvests the sun, washing the interiors with clear glacial whites that reflect this ingenious use of light, as it bounces about the natural larch and birch, capturing the setting perfectly. Inside, rosette and taupe scatter cushions pair with hand-stitched linen pieces and natural fluffy sheepskin throws, making the feel organic, reassuringly homely and familiar - this is Alpine elegance without being too complicated. A house of hued naturalness, the HUBERTUS is holistically calming, wrapped with an authentic sense of heart, naturalness and peace.

Bavarian soul, the Alps and Ayurveda are the holistic line-ups when it comes to high-altitude wellbeing. The new building's highlight is the infinity pool on the first floor, with a fantastic view of the mountains facilitated through the clever timbered exterior. A roof-top Japanese onsen, open-air Alpine Zen Gardens, ten new treatment suites, Alpinarium and Sauna landscape complete the holistic approach, plus an outdoor natural bathing pond.

A new art of wellness, living and relaxation sourced from the mountains of Allgäu that borrows from heritage and gives the soul a hug in clever thoughtful, sustainable design.

Rooms

HUBERTUS Mountain Refugio Allgäu | Bavaria Germany | The Aficionados

All of the rooms at HUBERTUS Mountain Refugio Allgäu benefit from light, which floods in from the unfiltered nature outside. This drenches the room with a cool, breezy vibe, accented by light furnishings – canopy beds, gauzy curtains, sheepskin throws, cow hide rugs and oak flooring.

Each room has something special – be it a circular wooden bathtub, a hanging egg chair strategically placed to catch the view or a suite created on two levels. The Hubertus Suite stands out for its country style reinterpreted in a modern way, its cosy tiled stove and casual ‘hut-chic’ vibe.

Up in Summit Happiness, (one of our favourite names for a suite, ever), the Allgäu mountains take centre stage from either of the two balconies or from the bath – flawlessly aligned to the view. The Marble Spa Suite is the one to take for wellness lovers – it comes with its own whirlpool, steam and shower sauna.

Slow food rules the kitchen here with tasty regional delights and remakes of Grandma's classics - and if dairy ticks your foodie inbox - then this is the place for you

Foodie

A farm-to-table concept bringing the flavours and tastes of the Allgäu to focus with dishes inspired by a love of food and fresh Alpine goodness.  Chef Kristian Knölke is a passionate slow-fooder as well as having a keen understanding of nutritional balance.  On the whole, the focus on food is everything that comes from the surrounding Alpine countryside, familiar flavours are teased with subtle spices and oriental influences, right the way through to a celebration of more than 120 dairy farms in the Allgäu.

A total of six different dining options await hungry guests, each individual in its flair and character and all sharing the same passion and love of food that is at one with nature. Tasty, fresh and thoughtful sum up the foodie scene at this design hotel high in the mountains, accompanied by some of the best outdoor terraces in the Allgäu.

Spa

Completely rethought and build in early 2021, Bavarian soul, the Alps and Ayurveda are the holistic line-ups when it comes to high-altitude wellbeing. At 1044m above sea level, the Hubertus Mountain Refugio's Spa and Wellness has been created under the motto 'Zest for Life' (Lust auf Leben).

Rooftop Japanese Onsen pool and gardens fuse the Alps and the Far East into the wellness concept, facing dramatic mountain vistas it is a spiritual oasis of energy with a designer edge, kitted out in white silver birch, natural larch, slate-grey stone slabs, hanging wicker baskets and Zen-infused stone gardens, not forgetting a magical circle of stones. A total of ten treatment rooms, many with Alpine views, cover mind, body and soul with signature programmes of Sweet Detox, using mountain beeswax, the AlpHYANGA Ayurveda body treatment and the Johannes Berry tea-infused wash-down. There are also a couple of sauna options, from mountain, herbal and steam - and we particularly love the barefoot pathway. Hubertus Mountain Refugio provides a naturopathic escape laced with the Alpine soul of Bavaria and the healing powers of high-altitude mountains and a spiritual lift from the Far East.
