Switzerland

From the land of snow-peaks, well-crafted watches and political neutrality comes an experience of almost unparalleled natural beauty. A mix of 4 languages and cultures, this alpine country is bordered by France, Germany, Italy and Austria, and enjoys the superior sliver of the Alps. Here, breath-taking scenery is just a backdrop for the best skiing in the world. Take advantage of the snow with mountaineering activities on the soaring peaks of the Matterhorn and Zermatt or frolic in the winter wonderland playgrounds of Vals, Flims and Thun.

In local opinion, Engelberg-Titlis, close to Lucerne, is maybe the closest you’ll get to Eden on earth. So if you need to cool down from the adrenaline rush, dip into one of the many spas or health resorts this area is known for. This includes the Zumthor Therme baths in the picture-postcard ski village of Vals, which is sandwiched between St. Moritz and Chur in Graubünden.

This indulgence of the senses, paired with creative brilliance and sophisticated sensibilities, make Switzerland home to one of the world’s most influential cultural events: the Basel Art Fair. For one week each year, curators, gallerists, heiresses and artists descend on this Swiss city to buy, sell, and enjoy. Not to be left off this illustrious list Zurich and Bern are also celebrated for their superior design, architecture and breathe-taking backdrops.

There are many ways to traverse Switzerland, from high-altitude cable cars to sleek roadways. But we recommend Switzerland by train, which will take you through rolling hills and farmlands, quaint towns such as Brig and Engadin, scenic vineyards, snow-covered peaks and forests, and even directly through the rocky facades of the mountains themselves. Not only that, but it's easy, with fantastic networks spanning out from both Genèva and Zurich airports.
