The historic city of Brig, unofficially founded in the Stone Age, is widely considered to be the “gateway to the Alps.” Here, skiing and hiking reign supreme, so join up with the Mountain Climbing Brigade - which since 1844 has helped explorers at heart embark on mountain expeditions - and go discover. You can also catch the UNESCO world heritage landmarked Aletsch Glacier – the largest glacier in the Alps – via the famous Glacier Express.
You should aim to find accommodation close to the city centre, walk through rows of elegant 12th century aristocratic houses, check out the Baroque-style Stockalper Castle, now restored to its former glory, or go see the majestic Church of Mariä Himmelfahrt. For true relaxation, we recommend simply taking a soak in the nearby thermal baths of Brigerbad.
