Tirol

Austria

This unique state, most famous for it's skiing, is a rich mix of Northern Italian, Austrian and Bavarian influences. A particularly verdant region filled with lush green meadows, charming cottages, and a more relaxed pace of life, Austria's Tirol region has long been a home to dreamers and writers alike. 19th century statesman and writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote of Tirol, “Here I have finally found a place of quiet, a place of peace, the like of which I could have only wished for.” With more than 500 peaks over 3,000m and more than 600 glaciers along the main alpine ridge, this area boasts not only a singular landscape but also a variety of activities, from hiking and rock-climbing in the warm summer months to alpine and cross-country skiing and tobogganing in the cold bright days of winter.
