Genuizzi | Banal Architetti

Genuizzi | Banal Architects studio is based in Milano. For more than two decades, the studio has become synonymous with clear spatial design and a strong lineal aesthetic bound to the environment.

The Aficionados first came across architects Emanuele Genuizzi and Giovanni Banal when we were introduced to the Vivere Suites; a low-rise design hotel concept in the Arco Mountains of Trentino. The duo has fused a signature design rationale which of has earnt the practise international acclaim including winning the first prize in the competition for the “Piazza Castello and Foro Buonaparte” area in Milano (January 2017). The duo has also ventured across the creative fields from artistic creation to the curatorship of exhibits and editorial projects to communication design—have made it even more culturally fertile and expressive.

The studio’s activities range from the design and construction of new buildings to the restructuring, restoration and creative repurposing of an existing and historic property, from urban scale projects to interior design projects in Italy and abroad, from the conception and creation of furniture and accessories to the direct and complete management of contract projects, often in partnership with Studio Fair. To meet each project’s specific needs, the studio avails itself of a tried-and-tested network of professionals—engineers, lighting designers, garden designers, web and graphic designers, specialized technicians—companies, businesses and artisanal workshops offering guaranteed quality and experience.

Emanuele Genuizzi (1967)

With an Architecture degree from the Politecnico di Milano, he began his career with B&B Italia and acted as an instructor and researcher at the Faculty of Industrial Design at the Politecnico and the Computer Science Department at the University of Milan, presenting his works at international exhibits and conventions.

From 1997 to 2001 he worked with the Teatro alla Scala, for which he created LaScalaWeb. This project reached the final of the 2001 Smithsonian Award and signed the editorial project for the book Riccardo Muti alla Scala, published by Rizzoli.

 In Spoleto, he edited the visual arts section of the Festival dei Due Mondi 2002 and the exhibit Lila de Nobili with Gian Carlo Menotti. For the theatre, in 2006 he created the visual dramaturgy for Giacomo Puccini’s Le Villi for Genoa’s Teatro Carlo Felice.

 With architect Bosco Fair, he is founder and designer of the furniture brand CASA CASATI.

Giovanni Banal (1979)

With an Architecture degree from the Politecnico di Milano, he works with Emanuele Genuizzi since 2004. Their professional collaboration then developed, leading up to the establishment of the studio. Thanks to his cultural interests, his areas of expertise include bio-building and landscape architecture, fields that he has further explored in international workshops. He has been successful in design competitions dedicated to particular to urban redevelopment.
