With architecture spanning back over 600-years to the age of emperors, Niedermairhof's renovated farmhouse in Brunico (Bruneck), South Tyrol, has watched over the tilling of earth for many generations. Now a nature-inspired design den where clever acoustic innovations mingle with intimate historic details, Niedermairhof is so much more than just a B&B.
A costly enterprise, Niedermairhof’s renovation is saturated with intimate historic details and has a dazzling focus on proportions, from top to toe.
The disarmingly narrow appearance of the collar-beam roof needed the benefit of iron supports, but has maintained its charming waistline with clever perspective tricks, and lots of builder negotiations. If ever a renovation was a project of love, this was it.
Acoustics were fine-tuned to perfection and innovative moments in architecture and design saw to it that, in a house as old as this one, next door need hear nothing at all – whether you be partying on down or staying up to all hours.
Two years in to the initial build, with a solid architectural structure under their (possibly looser) belts, Kathrin and Helmuth finally declared “the house lives”. From that moment on enter antique locks formed into door handles, windows expertly placed to make the most of light and quirky geometric proportions gracing the outside building, sheltering you elegantly from the rain.
A stylish, cleverly designed and relaxing atmosphere that boasts a mix of contemporary design blended expertly with celebrated, antique history, Niedermairhof is a delight in architecture, design and peace. South Tyrol’s Puster Valley in Italy is without a doubt all the more rich for this brave and soothingly authentic Italian retreat.
