Brig's Mountainside World of Wonder

Whether you’re a seasoned visitor or planning on your first trip, the charming town of Brig in Switzerland is sure to surprise. Located close to the Swiss-Italian border, in the sunny Upper Valais, Brig is an accessible gateway to the Alps, ski resorts and mountains, even more, Brig is a magnet for thrill-seekers and those with a passion for culture and history.

With a history dating back to 1844, the Hotel De Londres provides the ideal base camp for those about to embark on an expedition in the Alps and is today the gateway to the likes of ski resorts Zermatt and Saas-Fee.  Ideally situated in the heart of Brig, it is the perfect place to begin an excursion to the hiking and skiing regions of the Lötschberg and Simplon

The ‘old town’ of Brig is designated a Swiss Heritage Site, and is filled with elegant rows of aristocratic houses that date back to the 12th Century. 

Be sure to check Stockalper Palace; built in 1658, and now carefully restored back to its classic Baroque style.

Take part in a guided tour of the castle and stop awhile in the inner court where you’ll enjoy splendid views of Brig’s arcades and historical buildings.

The Church of Mariä Himmelfahrt has an intriguing and famous ossuary (a place for skeletal remains).

Other religious sites include a Christian pilgrimage and collegiate church and Sebastian’s chapel.

In Brig, film buffs and music lovers are never left out – Upper Valais Film Days (26. Oberwalliser Filmtage) showcase award-winning films by projecting them in their original version on the spectacular Brig Castle premises.

At the end of June each year, music lovers congregate for the Alpine Town Festival (Alpenstadtfest), which showcases a series of gigs by prominent names in the Swiss music industry.
