The Style Lair

Interiors adopt references to the rawness of the Alps softened with a playful mid-century buoyance

Intro

The cool cat of the Alps, The Hide Hotel & Spa is a year-round suave lair of modern Alpine design perched like a sleek penthouse above the ski resort of Flims. A re-thought mountain resort that flirts with the cosy traditions of the Alps paired with a narrative of fresh design tones, botanicals and natural materials; The Hide Hotel fuses progressive Alpinist interiors with voguish sophistication.

The notion of modern mountain escapism is immediate – a distinctive architectural design that cleverly binds a vernacular of curved white concrete and large oversized glass creating the statement façade. The seductive form reflects the traditional tiered terraces of the slopes, The Hide is sleek, adopting the Alpine topography that surrounds it. Inside this modernist lair, the lobby is a series of open fluid spaces that play host to the lounge, the focal hub. Crackling fireplaces, a snug library and a canopy of deep velvet sofas, bucket swivel stools and wooden fur-clad benches make for perfect socialising. The onsite Hideaway Cinema Bar & Lounge makes for a perfect pitstop for a spot of big-screen action, while The Garden Sun Terrace skirts the eye-candy vistas - complete with a resident DJ, and the 1,000m² Spa is a cocoon of holistic fun.

Interiors adopt references to the rawness of the Alps softened with a playful mid-century buoyance. Orchestrating the penthouse design of The Hide Hotel is Sweden’s award-winning architectural, design and creative agency Stylt Trampoli AB – aka artist and visionary, Erik Nissen Johansen. The guru of imaginative design, he has a strong penchant for modern Alpine living and masters the use of raw materials in their natural state, dressing the finished interiors with refined textiles and layers of comfort that warm the soul.

Design favourites sourced from the likes of Sängar, Designers Choice, Gervasoni, International Textil, Miró Miró, Örsjö, Milla Design, Delius, Casa Rosa/ Kirkby, Trapiche & Co, Bankeryd/Pholc, JAB, Globo, Tapwell, MYSON, Aliseo, Cosmic and Vega join forces to deck The Hide Hotel in designer sophistication.  The bedrooms and suites show mastery in binding the traditional with modernity in creating a habitat on the edge of funky, whilst giving Alpine heritage a well-deserved hug.  Glass, raw stone, intricate metalwork, fine wicker panels and exquisite full-length wooden marquetry are softened by rich velvets of dusted pinks, mustard and botanical verts – a designer cocoon for Hästens beds and smart lighting.

This is your cultured mountain resort for the whole family with outdoor pursuits geared to both the winter habitat for the ski fraternity and the hiking junkies of summer, this all-year-round hotspot is a modern Alpine legend of polished sophistication and just enough ‘urban’ to keep things cool.

Owners

The Game Changers

The Hide Flims is fortunate to count three pioneering icons from the modern hospitality trade behind the creation – each with a particular skill set that helps define what being a modern hotelier is all about. The trio – two brothers and fellow industry insider, are long-time friends and already have had several success stories under their entrepreneurial belts including award winning Spedition Hotel in Thun. With pitstops in Swiss hotel legends, the trio are determined pioneers of casual luxury – "all the services, all the style - just not the stiff pretence.”

Daniel Mani

A natural hotelier being born into a family of long established restauranteurs, it was a fast-pace journey for Daniel Mani to continue the family legacy. After graduating Daniel wasted no time in working alongside industry legends like Jacky Donitz (Hotel Zürich) and at the tender age of 25 starting his first business venture. A lecturer, entrepreneur, gastronome, and hotelier, Daniel is an ambitious character with an infectious passion for hospitality and his beloved homeland of Switzerland.

Günter Weilguni

Günter Weilguni also learned his trade from scratch. After graduating from hotel business school in Zurich and completing courses at Cornell University in New York, he gained his first professional experience on cruise ships. Subsequent posts included Hotel Baur au Lac in Zurich and Sunstar in Grindelwald. Recently crowned “Hotelier of the Year” in 2017, Günter is a marketing guru with a clear understanding of what today’s traveller seeks in a hotel, “hotels of modern luxury are relaxed in nature with excellent service and stylish in ambiance.”

Manfred Weilguni

After completing culinary training and graduating from Thun Hotel Management School, Manfred Weilguni held the posts of F&B Manager and deputy-director at Seiler Hotels Zermatt, Grand Park Hotel in Gstaad and Alpine Lodge in Saanen. With a number of hotel success stories, Manfred is a passionate hotelier who believes that the "guest should always be centre-stage and our role is about providing an experience beyond just accommodation.”
